In-Plant Training / Job Placement

The students of the 1st two batches of the ICT and Welding Sections, Who have completed the two year Diploma Course in Institutional  Training, of the SLCoT , had been placed on the Industries, for their In-Plant Training in early March, 2009.

One of our teams visited the Colombo Dockyard PLC on the 07th April 2009 and carried out a survey regarding the progress of the Industrial Training of the 11 students of the Metal Work section assigned to the said company for In-Plant Training. Most of the students stated that they are following the said In-Plant Training very successfully and that it is very important for their professional development.

The Assistant Engineer (Training Planning) Mr. A. S. Abeyagunasekara said that our trainees are keen on practical aspects in general but some theoretical areas to be developed to maintain the expected standard procedures.

After having a short discussion with our trainees we Identified, that some of the advanced safety procedures as well as the basic components and functional areas of a ship / vessel may include to the institutional training will be an advantage to make the students to be fit into the real shipbuilding environment.

The Course Coordinator of Metal Works Mr. Kulathunga said that “We got a good understanding and important feedback on the behavior and performance of our students and base on that we can fine-tune our strategies to make our students to fit in to the real world of work”.
