Following the retirement of Mr N R R K Wijenayake, Director of the Sri Lanka College of Technology (SLCoT) and Project Manager of the JSCoT Project, Mr W M C Bandara assumed duties as the Director of the College on 4 November 2009. By holding the office of the Director of the College, Mr Bandara also becomes the Project Manager of the JSCoT Project.

Mr Bandara joined the Maradana Technical College in February 1979, as the College was then known, as an instructor in the electrical department. A Class I officer of the Sri Lanka Technical Education Service (SLTES), Mr Bandara brings thirty years of experience as an educator and administrator. Before his appointment as the Director of SLCoT, he served for about four years as the acting Principal of the Embilipitiya Technical College.

Speaking on his appointment as the Director of the College, Sri Lanka’s oldest technical college and the first College of Technology, Mr Bandara said that he is delighted to be ‘back’ to where he started and that with the support of his fellow instructors, students and the Department, hopes to revive the College so that it becomes a Center of Excellence.

Mr Hiroshi Saito, Acting Chief Advisor of the JSCoT Project said that he hoped that Mr Bandara would be able to provide the ‘much needed’ leadership and commitment to resolve some of the key issues faced by the Project.

The Project wishes Mr Bandara all the best in his endeavors.
