Layout change at Career Guidance Unit of Sri Lanka College of Technology

Under the initiation of Career Guidance (CG) Consultant and the CG Short Term Expert of the JSCoT Project, the Sri Lanka College of Technology Director Mr. Chandrasiri Bandara gave his fullest support and approval for the proposed layout change at Sri Lanka College of Technology Career Guidance Unit.

The previous layout of the Career Guidance unit of Sri Lanka College of Technology very much congested and was not arranged according to the standard layout given by the Department of Technical Education and Training. Therefore it was re-arranged appropriately by shifting forward where the classroom was situated previously, so that any new client/visitor who walks in for the first time can easily locate the Career Guidance Unit , since previously clients had to walk across the classroom to enter the Sri Lanka College of Technology Career Guidance Unit.

This will be a great opportunity to start implementing Basic productivity and 5S as a model COT CGU since the Career Guidance officers have already undergone a Training of Trainers program on Basic Productivity and 5S conducted by National Productivity Secretariat in August 2009.

This layout change was proposed mainly with following objectives,

  • Clients to locate the CGU easily
  • To improve image of SLCoT Career Guidance Unit to the public
  • Basic productivity and 5S to be implemented
  • Motivate the Career Guidance Unit Staff to work more efficiently
  • Improve the Information layout ,display the material attractively and place appropriate signage indicating what information and material is available
  • Arrange a separate area for to discuss the issues with individuals and for
  • Arrange a separate area for clients to refer information materials and complete registration forms.
  • Arrange a separate area for students to use internet to browse and Use Career Guidance database to search for Job vacancies.
  • Keep the office clean and tidy, without any congested areas.
  • Provide better Career Guidance services to the students/Clients
  • Improve the overall SLCoT career Guidance process and image
