Three Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV)* visited the JSCoT Level 5 & 6 Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Section of the Sri Lanka College  of Technology (SLCoT) on Friday, 5 March 2010.

Two Volunteers are attached to the ICT Sections (Levels 5 and 6) of the Colleges of Technology in Galle (Ms.Sueda) and Ratnapura (Mr.Gonomaru) while the third is attached to a training center of the Vocational Training Authority (VTA) in Beddegama (Mr.Hayashi).

The three Volunteers spent about two hours at the College and were fully briefed on the methodology and teaching and assessment practices of the ICT Section by Ms. Rajeevi Guruge, Course Coordinator and Instructor of the ICT Section. The briefing session also included a tour of the laboratories of the ICT Section and Mr. Chaturanga Pitigala, the Systems Administrator of the ICT Section explained about the Server and about the Computer network security system.

The Volunteers shared their teaching experience with Ms. Guruge - hence this interactive session / visit benefitted both parties, the ICT Section of the College as well as the Volunteers.

The Volunteers expressed their gratitude to Ms. Guruge and to Mr. Pitigala. They hoped that visits / group discussions of this nature would be organized by the Colleges of Technology and the Technical Colleges, as such events give the opportunity to instructors and College administrators to share ideas and best practices for the benefit of all the parties.
