Fruit Garden Establishment and Annual Meetings of Farmers Groups in Trabzon Project Sites

At the end of 2008, various fruit seedlings, including Kiwi, Persimmon, Pear, Walnut, Apple and Cherry, were distributed to the farmers in the model and extension project areas in Trabzon. After the evaluation of the farmers' requests, the Project Team Provided the necessary materials for the garden establishment. The farmers also need to contribute 10 % of the input cost. The kinds and areas of the new fruit gardens in 4 areas in Trabzon are as follows.

Kiwi (5.5 da), Persimmon (6.5 da), Walnut (53.5 da), Pear (40.0 da), Apple (26.0 da), Cherry (7.0 da)

In addition, pipe-type greenhouses were installed in several farmers' fields in Kurucam and Darıca. They were completely local-made based on the Japanese standard type.

In February 2009, the annual meetings of all farmers groups established in the model and extension project areas. The leaders reported the progress of the activities in last year and the members discussed the next plans in this year. In a series of the meetings, they formulated some new groups targeting at other crops.
