Opening of Yokohama Port and Modernization of Transportation

As part of JICA Development Studies Program (JICA-DSP), JICA Yokohama produced a video titled "Opening of Yokohama Port and Modernization of Transportation".

Japan's transportation technology is recognized as one of the best in the world. As a city which symbolizes Japan's civilization, Yokohama has served as a pioneer in the field of transportation technology development in Japan.

Today, Yokohama is known as one of the world's leading international cities. However, until the opening of the Yokohama port, this area was only a small village with about 100 houses of farmers and fishermen. In order to prevent local citizens from causing conflicts with foreigners, Yokohama was chosen as the ideal area to open an international port, due to its location.

The purpose of this video is to introduce to a wide range of people, including JICA Scholars, how the development of Yokohama began with the construction of various "roads." The contents of each chapter are as follows;

Chapter1: Opening of Yokohama port and Two "Fathers of Yokohama"
Chapter2: The Construction of Railroads and Two Young Fathers
Chapter3: Run a Truck across the Sea!
Chapter4: Development of "Road" and "City" in Yokohama

We hope you will enjoy.
