シェイクスピアとヴェルディのオペラ：夢の一夜を体験した研修員

　
初台駅を降り、日中の暑さが少し和らいだ中、東京オペラシティホールへ。
みなさんいつもより少しおしゃれをして、待ち合わせ場所に集合しました。
研修員は、はじめてオペラ鑑賞をする方がほとんどで、引率する私も人生初のオペラ鑑賞でした。

雷鳴がホールに響く、鮮烈な始まりから舞台に惹き込まれるオテロ。
巨匠チョン・ミョンフンが指揮する、シェイクスピアの四大悲劇のひとつをオペラ化した『オテロ』は一言、圧巻のステージ。
表現豊かな歌手たちの渾身の演技に寄り添う、オーケストラのダイナミックかつ繊細な表現が見事でした。
研修員はみな、オーケストラの調べ、オペラと芸術を味わい、聴き入って楽しんでいる様子でした。

We were invited to a concert by the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra and appreciated Opera viewing with participants from Egypt, the Philippines, Bolivia, Honduras, Mexico, Thailand, and Indonesia.

After getting off at Hatsudai Station, we headed to Tokyo Opera City Hall as the daytime heat eased up a bit.
Everyone dressed up a little and gathered at the meeting place.
Most of the participants were attending an opera for the first time, and it was also the first time in my life for me to conduct them.

Otello drew us into the stage from its vivid beginning with a thunderous roar echoing through the hall.
Conducted by master conductor Myung-Whun Chung, "Otello," an opera adaptation of one of Shakespeare's four great tragedies, was, in a word, an outstanding stage performance.
The orchestra accompanied the expressive singers' full-bodied performances and it’s dynamic and delicate expression was superb.
The participants all seemed to enjoy listening to the orchestra's music, the opera, and the art.
