Power Network System

Power Network System

Electricity sector is one of the priority sectors in Japan's support for the reconstruction of Iraq.

The Government of Japan decided on the provision of 27 mobile substations, rehabilitation of Taji Gas Turbine Power Station, Mosul Gas Turbine Power Station, and Mosul Hydroelectric Power Station through direct grant, rehabilitation of the National Dispatch Center and rehabilitation of the Al Mussaib Thermal Power Station and Taji Gas Power Station through UNDP.

Now in this training programme, JICA, in cooperation with NEPCO, invited Iraqi engineers responsible for power control and operation, mainly from National Dispatch Center of Ministry of Electricity of Iraq to the National Control Center of NEPCO.

This training consisted of three topics, “Operation and Power System Analysis”, “Control System Installation, Operation and Maintenance” and “Communication Systems Installation, Operation and Maintenance including Carrier and Fiber Optic.”

Iraq has three dispatch centers, but all of them are obsolete due to insufficient investments and maintenance. To manage power flow with the utmost effort is a key issue for the effective use of a limited power supply.

Through this training, participants learned power operation and control systems including the SCADA system and how to manage power effectively.
