Training Opportunities

Why Training?

JICA conducts technical training program as part of it's technical cooperation assistance to the developing countries for promoting human resources development. Various training courses in diverse fields are offered in Japan for participants to obtain practical knowledge and technical skill relevant to the development needs of the country. It is expected that trainees would in turn apply what they have learnt for strenthening the economic and social development of their countries. Training courses are conducted at 17 training centers located throughout Japan, in cooperation with various universities, research centers, hospitals and other public bodies and institutions which prepare the practical and theory of the training.

Objectives

Besides promoting the advancement of developing countries, it also contributes to the promotion of mutual understanding and friendship.

Background

The Government of Japan started accepting overseas participants for training in Japan under the Colombo Plan Sponsorship Program in 1965. Arrangements of training is make directly with the recipient country to meet the needs and requests.

How are Courses Selected?

JICA develops a series of trianing courses to offer to the developing countries. Each year around May or June, JICA convey a course schedule comprised of more than 300 courses to the Malaysian Government through its Public Service Department (PSD) or better known as Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam (JPA) which deal with the nation human resource planning and management.

JPA would choose the courses, in line with Malaysian Government Human Resource Development plan and also taking into consideration of the priority areas of cooperation decided by the Malaysian Government with JICA. Compilation of training requests from Malaysian Government are submitted to the Embassy of Japan and JICA simultaneously. JICA officially directed all requests to JICA Headquarter for its consideration to study the request and for approval. Dateline for the submission of all official requests to JICA is fixed on end of August.
