On January 28, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Record of Discussions with the Government of Republic of India in Delhi for the Project for the Comprehensive Improvement of Environmental Sanitation in Varanasi, a technical cooperation project.
The project aims to enhance the capacities of Varanasi Nagar Nigam (Health Department, Transport Wing and Jal Kal) and Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam, Varanasi Zonal Office, for solid waste management, reduction of non-revenue water (NRW), and wastewater treatment. The project will also contribute to the achievement of SDGs Goals 6 and 12.
