Capacity Enhancement Training Report (3)
Tilapia farming Training (6th - 10th Feb.)

The tilapia farming training was well-attended, with a total of 30 participants from the Ministry of Fisheries. Furthermore, Mr. Esaroma Ledua from USP was invited to deliver the lectures. The main objectives of the training were: (i) Tilapia nutrition, (ii) Tilapia grow-out management, and (iii) Pond site selection and construction. Furthermore, Mr. Esaroma conducted hands-on training sessions on pond construction, site selection, and feasibility studies for farm management at the Naduruloulou Research Station (NRS) from 7th to 9th December 2022, and in Labasa on 19th and 20th January 2023. Dr. Chinthaka Hewavitharane from the Pacific Community (SPC) was also present during these sessions. Following the hands-on training, Mr. Ledua delivered lectures on Tilapia nutrition and feeds and feeding at USP from 6th to 10th February. It is quite encouraging to see the level of interest shown by Fisheries Officers when engaged in applied or hands-on activities.
