Conduct of baseline survey and monitoring

To recognize the actual situation in the target areas, conduct of baseline survey and monitoring were implemented as following items. The baseline survey will show us result of the project activities.
- Assessment of community's knowledge, attitude and practices
- Socio-economic benchmarking of target village(farmers and farmers household, crop planted, animal raised, household spending, land-use and cropping system)
- Bio-physical characterization of target village (soil, pest, climatic conditions e.g. rainfall, temperature)
Development of suitable and location-specific technology Packages
To attain the project goal, suitable input technology and location-specific technology have been implemented in the target areas as packages.
The technology package doesn't mean individual technology but combination of technologies under the palaycheck system which is a rice integrated crop management and more.

Establishment of technology promotion systems

Verified and improved technologies should be demonstrated in farmers' farms.
Preparation for Technology Promotion
- Establishment of TDF and TDF Committee
- Extension manual for farmers and resource persons
- TDF management manuals
- Farmers' training references
Establishment of technical support systems of TDF has focused on the following points
- Technical training for farmers and resource persons
- Demonstration farms
- Committee to share information
Activity Outline of Technology Demonstration Farm (TDF) PhilRice Station/ Project Sites | Cropping System | Target Technologies |
---|
PhilRice Batac Northwest Luzon TDF | Rice-based farming areas | Established suitable input technologies - Rapid compost production method with local materials
- Selection of drought tolerant variety of vegetable or other profitable crops
- Vegetable seed self-production technology of farmers
- Vegetable seed bed for early transplanting and harvesting
Location specific technology packages through TDF - Farmers' technoguide of [ rice + vegetable ] relay cropping
|
PhilRice Central Experiment Station/ Central Luzon TDF - Nueva Ecija San Antonio, Lagare, Rezal
| Intensive irrigated double rice cropping areas | Established suitable input technologies - Direct seeding mechanization for wet season, a power tiller with drum seeder to make furrows and sowing in one operation.
Location-specific technology packages through TDF - Farmers technoguide for rice production in irrigated lowland area
|
Northern Mindanao TDF - Agusan del Norte
- Agusan del Sur
| Adverse rice double cropping areas | Established suitable input technologies - Varietal development with tolerance to low solar radiation and resistance to pests.
- Establishment of integrated pest management on white stem borer
- White stem borer forecasting system
- White stem borer control method
|
Supports of the implementation of LGUs-led (Local Government Unit) Demonstration Farms (DFs) are as follows
- Training for extension workers and farmers
- Support of DF management and coordination of other organizations
An example of Process and Status of TDF/DF Implementation in Nueva Ecija, Central Luzon

Documentation of Project Process and Strategies
To attain the project goal, the following activities have to be done. These items linked with other organizations are essential to promote technology. A guide book of process management of the following items is under preparation now.
