Seeking Cooperation with Univ.

From 20 to 23 Oct. 2010, SUSFORM-NOW Project delegation visited Tay Bac Univ. (TBU) in Son La province and Vietnam Forest Univ. (VFU) in Hanoi for learning their experiences and discussing on future cooperation with them for implementing project activities.

SUSFORM-NOW Project delegation, including Mr. Ky, Project Manager, and Mr. GOSEKI, Chief Advisor, Ms. Nonaka, Administrative Coordinator visited Nhop village, Chieng Bom commune, Thuan Chau district, Son La province. Nhop villagers are Thai ethnic minority. Head of Nhop village introduced Community Forest management model.  With supports from TBU and Management Unit of Copia Nature Reserve, Nhop village has managed Community Forest very well. Beside it, other livelihood development activities also were considered and supported at Nhop village such as introducing improved stoves, bee keeping, and planting coffee for getting more income.

TBU and VFU introduced some well implemented and conducted projects and research models to the delegation, such as:

  • Project of planting variety of Chinese olive and Tamarind trees on upland of Thai people in Thuan Chau district.
  • Trainings on planting flower and mushroom for orphan children;
  • Guiding local people to use forest mushroom safely;
  • Trainings on techniques of planting mushroom for students of the Ethnic Boarding School of Thuan Chau district;
  • Trainings on techniques of sustainable cultivation on upland for H'mong people.
  • Trainings on techniques of planting natural forest vegetables.

Through business trip, Project Management Unit of SUSFORM-NOW has had more experiences to implement the project successfully.
