In this exhibit you can see the history of Japanese emigration abroad. This history can be broken down into five eras, from the beginning of the Meiji Period to the post-WWII years. The timeline on the left shows the major events that occurred during each of those eras. You can also view samples of travel permits, passports, photos of destination countries, and items relating to the incarceration of Japanese-Americans in North America during WWII. On the right, you can find recreations of the environment encountered by the immigrants in the new lands.
