“JICA Yokohama” is the shorter, commonly used name for JICA’s (Japan International Cooperation Agency) Yokohama Center. The Center opened in April 2002, together with the Japanese Overseas Migration Museum, and has since served as a domestic platform for Japan’s international cooperation activities. JICA Yokohama oversees programs that are held in Kanagawa and Yamanashi Prefectures.
JICA Yokohama functions as the operation base for a wide range of initiatives, such as the Knowledge Co-creation Program, the Citizen Participatory Cooperation Program, Collaboration with Nikkei Communities, the Public-Private Partnerships Program, and the Volunteer Program.
Facilities and Exhibitions
Located within the Center, the Japanese Overseas Migration Museum presents the history of Japanese overseas migration and the trails left by the Japanese in their destination countries. The museum aims to deepen public understanding of these individuals, who can also be regarded as early pioneers of international cooperation.
Serving as a regional focal point for international cooperation, JICA Yokohama operates JICA Plaza Yokohama, where visitors can get an overview of JICA’s programs and learn more about current global issues. The Center underwent a full renovation in 2021 and now features permanent exhibits created with contributions from prominent artists from Japan and abroad.
We also host lectures and other public events. Our restaurant, Port Terrace Café, offers a selection of international dishes and is open to everyone.
Situated in the culturally rich Minato Mirai area, with a history of international exchange and overseas migration, JICA Yokohama invites all to visit and enjoy its facilities.
