Emergency Assistance to the Republic of Cuba in Response to the Hurricane “Rafael”

The Japan International Cooperation Agency will provide emergency relief goods as below in response to the Hurricane “Rafael” disaster, upon the request from the Government of the Republic of Cuba.
1. Disaster situation
In the Republic of Cuba, Hurricane Rafael made landfall on November 6th, followed by Hurricane Oscar (late October) and a powerful earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale in the southeastern part of the country (November 10th). These successive disasters have caused great damage within the country.
According to United Nations, the damage situation as of November 13 was as follows:

Power outages and water supply disruptions in many areas due to damage to the power grid. Hurricane Rafael affected 178 medical facilities in Artemisa, Havana, Mayabeque and the National District. Damage to buildings and water pipe networks has been reported.

Water purifiers
B. Shipping schedule
The goods will be transported from the JICA warehouse in Singapore to Habana on the next available flight.
