Emergency Assistance in response to Hurricane “Melissa” disaster in Jamaica

The Japan International Cooperation Agency will provide emergency relief goods as below in response to Hurricane “Melissa” disaster, upon the request from the Government of Jamaica.
1. Disaster situation
On October 28, 2025, Hurricane Melissa made landfall in southwestern Jamaica, causing extensive human and material damage in the western and central regions of the country.
As of October 30, 2025 (based on reports from the Government of Jamaica and media sources):
Fatalities: 4
Injured: 13
Affected population: Approximately 1.5 million
Evacuees: Over 7,200
Missing persons: Unknown
Damaged houses: Unknown
2. Goods supplied
(1) Emergency relief goods (from the JICA warehouse in Miami)
Tents
Sleeping pads
Portable Plastic Jerry Cans
Water purifiers
(2) Shipping schedule
Arrangements are being made to transport the supplies to Kingston on the earliest available flight.
