Emergency Assistance in response to Hurricane “Melissa” disaster in Cuba

The Japan International Cooperation Agency will provide emergency relief goods as below in response to Hurricane “Melissa” disaster, upon the request from the Government of Cuba.
1. Disaster situation
On October 29, 2025, Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Eastern Cuba, causing extensive human and material damage in the Eastern regions of the country.
As of November 4, 2025 (based on reports from the Government of Cuba and media sources):
Fatalities: None
Evacuees: Over 735,000 people
Damaged houses: 45,282 units
Damaged educational facilities: 1,552 schools
Infrastructure: Disruption of roads and bridges, destruction of the power grid
2. Goods supplied
(1) Emergency relief goods (from the JICA warehouse in Dubai)
Tents
Blanket
Sleeping Pad
Water purifiers
(2) Shipping schedule
Arrangements are being made to transport the supplies to Havana on the earliest available flight.
