On February 7, JICA President Tanaka met with President Hakainde Hichilema of the Republic of Zambia in Tokyo.

The meeting marked their second discussion following their previous talks in Zambia last June. At the outset, President Hichilema expressed his pleasure at meeting President Tanaka again and conveyed his gratitude for JICA's continued cooperation in Zambia.

In response, President Tanaka acknowledged Zambia’s pivotal role not only within the country, but also for peace, stability, and economic development across the whole southern African region. He emphasized JICA’s commitment to further cooperation with a focus on Zambia’s development in light of the upcoming TICAD9 this summer.

The two leaders also exchanged views on a wide range of areas for future cooperation, including infrastructure development to improve the investment environment, strengthening business ties, and countermeasures against climate change.
