JICA President Tanaka Met with Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea Marape

On July 22, JICA President Tanaka Akihiko met with Prime Minister James Marape of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea in Tokyo.

At the outset, President Tanaka expressed his congratulations on the 50th anniversary of Papua New Guinea's independence, extending his gratitude for the understanding and cooperation provided for JICA's initiatives in the country. He also reviewed on the outcomes of the 10th Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting (PALM10) held in Tokyo last year, and underscored JICA's commitment to collaborate for the development of Papua New Guinea, with the aim of further strengthening the relationship between the two countries.

In response, Prime Minister Marape expressed his gratitude for JICA's cooperation, highlighting symbolic bilateral collaboration such as the Nadzab-Tomodachi International Airport.

Both parties further exchanged views on the possibilities for future cooperation to advance economic and social development in Papua New Guinea, especially in areas such as education and health.
