On March 30, JICA President Tanaka Akihiko met with Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) Chief Executive Officer Woochong Um at JICA headquarters in Tokyo.
At the outset, President Tanaka expressed hope for future collaboration across various sectors between JICA and GEAPP, with reference to the Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) concluded by the two organizations in August 2025.
In response, CEO Um noted the difficulties of achieving last-mile electricity access, and emphasized the importance of collaboration between philanthropic organizations and bilateral and multilateral development institutions to catalyze activities that enhance electricity access.
Both parties further exchanged views on the challenges in electricity access, explored potential areas for collaboration in energy access, and discussed effective ways to leverage philanthropic funding across Asia.
