JICA President Tanaka Met with Philippine President Marcos

On May 28, JICA President Tanaka Akihiko met with President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos, Jr. of the Republic of the Philippines in Tokyo.
At the outset, JICA President Tanaka highlighted that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and the Philippines. He also referred to their collaboration through the dispatch of the Japan Disaster Relief (JDR) Team in response to the Navotas sanitary landfill fire in April, expressing his intention to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.
In response, President Marcos expressed his appreciation for JICA’s continued cooperation and conveyed his expectation for even closer collaboration.
Both parties further exchanged views on responses to the situation in the Middle East, progress in the Mindanao peace process, and the need to address challenges toward the smooth implementation of JICA’s key infrastructure projects.
