On October 22, JICA President Tanaka Akihiko met with President Wesley W. Simina of the Federated States of Micronesia in Tokyo.
At the outset, President Tanaka congratulated the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) on the 40th anniversary of its independence and expressed his appreciation for the government's continued understanding of and cooperation with JICA's activities.
In response, President Simina expressed his gratitude for JICA's longstanding cooperation with FSM and highly commended JICA’s efforts, noting its deep understanding of the country's priorities, particularly in enhancing “unity” among its geographically dispersed islands.
Both parties further exchanged views on the 11th Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting (PALM 11), which will be held in Japan next year, as well as the ongoing Pohnpei Port Expansion Project, and opportunities for further cooperation toward the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and the FSM in 2028.
