On March 1, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a grant agreement with the Government of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania in Nouakchott, to provide grant aid of up to 1,915 million yen for the Project for the Improvement of the Facilities of the Qualification and Training Center for the Fishing Professions.

Under this project, the technical competency and the function of the Qualification and Training Center for the Fishing Professions (CQFMP) will be enhanced at its Nouakchott headquarters through reconstruction of its training and administrative facilities, thereby contributing to the human resource development in the fisheries sector of Mauritania. This project will contribute to the achievement of SDGs Goals 8 (decent work and economic growth) and 14 (life below water).

①Facility improvements/equipment procurement
【Facility】 Functions of the CQFMP headquarters: CQFMP Nouakchott headquarters main building (3 floors, total floor area of 4,240m2) equipped with fisheries training and practical training facilities, and accommodation for the trainees.
【Equipment】 Artisanal fishing, fishery processing, repair of outboard and inboard motors, shipwright training equipment (1 set of gill nets, 1 set of equipment for fishing gear manufacturing, 1 set of vacuum packaging machine, 2 sets of commercial freezers, 1 set of ice machine, 1 set of inboard motor, 13 sets of outboard motors) etc.

Detailed design work, bidding assistance, construction/procurement supervision.
