On June 27, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Loan Agreement with the Republic of Peru in Lima to provide a Japanese ODA loan of up to 45 million US dollars for the Solid Waste Management Project (Phase 2).
The objective of the Project is to improve the integrated solid waste management system in the selected cities in Peru where sanitary landfills have been constructed as part of the Solid Waste Management Project (Phase 1). Such an objective will be achieved through the closure of existing open dumping sites as well as the establishment of an adequate maintenance system, thereby contributing to improved environmental quality in the target areas in Peru. This project will contribute to the achievement of SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) Goals 11 (Sustainable cities and communities), 12 (Responsible consumption and production) and 13 (Climate action).
