Signing of Grant Agreement with Zambia: Contributing to an increase in rice production through the development of rice-seed production facilities

On December 8 the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a grant agreement with the Government of the Republic of Zambia in Lusaka, to provide grant aid of up to 1,590 million yen for the Project for the Development of Rice Seeds Production Field and Training Facilities.
The objective of the project is to strengthen the system for disseminating rice-cultivation technology and the capacity to produce certified seeds at the Mt. Makulu and Mansa Research Stations. It will do so through the construction of facilities and the procurement of equipment needed for the dissemination of rice-cultivation technology, as well as through the construction of paddy fields and irrigation facilities for producing original-strain and certified seeds. This project will thereby contribute not only to an increase in the production of rice in Zambia, but also to the achievement of SDGs Goal 2 (Zero hunger).
