On April 19, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) with the Camões Institute for Cooperation and Language of Portugal (hereafter Camões Institute). The signing took place between JICA President Tanaka Akihiko and Camões Institute President Ana Fernandes.

The MoC is intended to promote collaboration between Camões Institute and JICA’s partner countries, especially Portuguese-speaking countries. JICA has also contributed to stimulating international discussion in the global arena on the importance and added value of triangular cooperation* by attending the International Meeting on Triangular Cooperation, which is jointly organized by the Portuguese government and the OECD.**

With the conclusion of this MoC, President Tanaka and President Fernandes confirmed that they will work together to promote further international cooperation partnerships on the ground in Portuguese-speaking countries, such as Angola, Mozambique, and Timor-Leste, and to disseminate their efforts to realize more effective development cooperation at international conferences and other events.
