Memorial Ceremony Held in Remembrance of Japanese Citizens Who Lost Their Lives by in the Terrorist Attack in Dhaka,Bangladesh

On July 3, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), together with the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and others, held a memorial ceremony for the seven Japanese citizens who, while engaged in the preparatory study on the Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development Project, lost their lives in the July 2016 terrorist attack in Dhaka.

The memorial ceremony was held on July 3,in front of the memorial monument installed in the depot of Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Line 6.Officials from both the Bangladeshi and Japanese governments participated, including His Excellency Iwama Kiminori, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Deputy Director-General of the International Cooperation Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan Kusakabe Hideki, Bangladesh’s Secretary of Economic Relations Division, Ministry of Finance Md.Shahriar Kader Siddiky, Bangladesh’s Secretary of Road Transport and Highways Division, Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges A B M Amin Ullah Nuri, Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited Managing Director M. A.N Siddique, as did members of the bereaved families. Marking eight years since the terrorist attack occurred in Dhaka, the ceremony expressed condolences for the tragic loss and reaffirmed JICA’s dedication to safety and peace to ensure the incident is not forgotten.

JICA Senior Vice President Hara Shohei, who also attended the ceremony, conveyed his gratitude for the contributions of the seven indivisuals to the development of Bangladesh. He also renewed JICA’s commitment to never forget their legacy and take all possible measures to ensure future safety.
