On August 19, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a grant agreement with the Government of the Kingdom of Tonga in the capital city Nuku’alofa, to provide a grant aid for the Project for the Improvement of Fua’amotu International Airport.

The objective of the Project is to improve the convenience of Fua'amotu International Airport in the capital city Nuku'alofa by/through expanding and renovating the existing international passenger terminal building and developing related facilities, thereby contributing to the strengthening of Tonga's industrial basis.

- Specific Project Details
(a) Construction and procurement works:
i) Expansion and renovation of the existing International Passenger Terminal Building
ii) Repairing the damaged structural columns along the curb and on the observation deck
iii) Expansion of the existing International Apron
iv) Passenger Boarding Bridge
v) Setting the shelters to cover the street in front of the Passenger Terminal Building and the side walk
