JICA President Tanaka Akihiko met with Vice President Raquel Peña of the Dominican Republic in Tokyo on April 4.
At the opening of the meeting, Vice President Peña conveyed her gratitude for JICA's long-standing cooperation in the Dominican Republic and her hope for a continued deepening of the partnership between the two countries. In particular, she spoke highly of JICA's long-standing efforts in the solid waste management sector and expressed her high expectations for Japanese ODA loans in the future. Additionally, Vice President Peña highlighted the fact that the "Dominican-Japanese Friendship Center for Medical Education" has been continuously providing medical services to local residents as a result of Japan's support, and further expressed her willingness to carry out triangular cooperation with JICA for neighboring countries such as Haiti.

In response, President Tanaka referred to JICA's past efforts in the Dominican Republic, its partnership with people of Japanese descent living in the country (Nikkei), and its future cooperation plans, and expressed the agency’s hope toward the early signing of a loan agreement for a Japanese ODA loan in the solid waste management sector. President Tanaka also stated that JICA would like to consider multilateral collaboration such as South-South and Triangular Cooperation and partnership projects with the private sector in the future.

Vice President Peña also conveyed her appreciation for JICA's cooperation in translating the "Dominican Investment Guide" prepared by the Dominican government.
