Signing of Grant Agreement with Nepal: Providing a Digital Elevation Model and Orthophoto and contributing to the strengthening of disaster resilience

On May 25, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a grant agreement with the Government of Nepal inKathmandu, to provide grant aid of up to 1.17 billion yen for the Project for the Development of Digital Elevation Model and Orthophoto.

This project aims to reduce damages from natural disasters by developing a Digital Elevation Model (*1) and providing Orthophoto (*2) in the Southern part of Nepal. Through this, the project is expected to contribute to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Goals 9 and 11.

*1 A representation of the topography in digital format. The map will normally divide the area into rectangular pixels and store the elevation of each pixel.
*2 A computer-generated image of an aerial photograph in which displacements (distortions) caused by terrain relief and camera tilts are removed.
