On May 29, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a grant agreement with the Royal Government of Cambodia inPhnom Penh, to provide grant aid of up to 3.421 billion yen for the Project for Expansion of Water Supply System in Ta Khmau.
This project aims at improvement of access to safe water through expansion of the water supply system in the Ta Khmau District, a suburb of Phnom Penh, whose population is greatly increasing, thereby contributing to improvement of the living environment in the Ta Khmau District and Phnom Penh. This project will contribute to the achievement of SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) Goal 6,
This project is the first Grant Aid with Operation and Maintenance, which applies Japanese efficient know-how about operation and maintenance as well as high-quality construction technology. Through this new framework, it is expected to provide a high-quality water supply service while keeping water tariff low.
In addition to this project, JICA has implemented “The Project on Capacity Building for Urban Water Supply System in Cambodia (Phase 3)” (2012-2017), a technical cooperation project, and “The Project for Strengthening Administrative Capacity of Urban Water Supply in Cambodia” (2018-2022), a technical cooperation project. JICA will continue to provide comprehensive support for improving the water supply environment in Cambodia.
