Signing of Record of Discussions on Technical Cooperation Project with Laos: Cooperation in strengthening bridge maintenance and management skills

On July 27, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Record of Discussions with the Government of Lao People’s Democratic Republic in Vientiane for the Project for Capacity Development on Bridge Maintenance and Management, a technical cooperation project.

The project aims to strengthen the skills of the relevant authorities in Laos at carrying out proper bridge maintenance and management through technical transfer. The project will contribute to the achievement of SDGs Goal 9.

Executing agency Ministry of Public Works and Transport (Department of Roads, Public Works and Transport Training Institute), Department of Public Works and Transport of targeted provinces
Target region Vientiane, Savannakhet, Champasak
Specific project details (provisional) Strengthening of bridge maintenance and management skills of relevant organizations through dispatch of Japanese experts and counterpart training (in Japan/Laos/third country). The scope of cooperation includes bridge inspection/diagnosis and repair, and planning of bridge maintenance. Through private-academia-public collaboration with academic institutes and private companies in both Laos and Japan, the project aims to provide technical solutions and sustainable human resource development in Laos, and to further promote technical innovation and overseas expansion of Japanese companies and universities.
