On August 27, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a loan agreement with the Government of Republic of Paraguay in Asuncion to provide a Japanese ODA loan of up to 9.130 million yen for the Project for Water and Sanitation for the Metropolitan Area of Ciudad del Este. This is a joint co-financing project with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) based on the co-financing framework.

The object of the project is to provide safe and efficient water and sewage services in Ciudad del Este, the second largest metropolitan area in Paraguay, by installing and renovating energy-efficient water and sewage facilities, thereby contributing to the improvement of living conditions in the region. This project will contribute to the achievement of SDGs Goals 6 and 13.
