Signing of Record of Discussions on Technical Cooperation Project with Ethiopia: Improving operational efficiency of water supply business and water supply service through non-revenue water reduction in Addis Ababa

On Sept. 2, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Record of Discussions with the Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in the City of Addis Ababa for the Project for Strengthening Addis Ababa Water and Sewerage Authority’s Management Capacity of Non-Revenue Water Reduction, a technical cooperation project.

The purpose of the project is to strengthen management capacity for non-revenue water (*) reduction at the Addis Ababa Water and Sewerage Authority (AAWSA). The project aims to utilize the existing water resource more efficiently by reducing leakage, as well as to achieve a sound water supply business administration at AAWSA through cost-effective non-revenue water reduction measures, thereby contributing to the SDGs Goal 6.
(*) Non-revenue water is defined as water that is distributed for customers but is not subject to billing due to leakage, illegal connection, etc.
