Signing of Japanese ODA Loan Agreement with India: Budgetary support to contribute to COVID-19 Crisis Response in India by supporting the livelihood of poor and vulnerable communities

On January 8, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a loan agreement with the Government of India in Delhi to provide a Japanese ODA loan of up to 30 billion yen for The COVID-19 Crisis Response Support Loan for Social Protection.

The objective of the program is to contain COVID-19 and mitigate its adverse socioeconomic impacts in India, by extending budget support to the Government of India as it implements emergency response programs giving assistance to poor and vulnerable communities and also as it develops policy reforms for social protection as countermeasures against the COVID-19. It will thereby contribute to promoting social and economic stabilization and sustainable growth in India. This program will contribute to the achievement of SDGs Goals 1, 5, and 8, among others.

(1)Completion of project: March 2021 – when the loan is executed
(2)Issuing of letters of invitation for consulting services : No hiring of consultants is planned for this program.
(3)Tender announcement of initial procurement package for international competitive bidding on project construction: No work in conjunction with bidding is planned for this program.
