Signing of Record of Discussions on Technical Cooperation Project with Malaysia Contributing to the enhancement of the collaboration between Japanese and ASEAN universities and industries through the establishment and enhancement of Malaysia-Japan Linkage Office at the Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology
On April 10, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Record of Discussions with the Government of Malaysia in Johor Bahru for the Project for Enhancement of Malaysia-Japan Linkage Office at Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology, a technical cooperation project.
The Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT) was established in 2010 under the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) to introduce cutting-edge technical knowledge in Malaysia through research-oriented and laboratory-based Japanese engineering education. JICA has been supporting MJIIT through ODA loan agreements and technical cooperation projects that provide educational and research equipment and introduce Japanese engineering education thereby strengthening Malaysia’s international competitiveness and cultivating human resources who can contribute to ASEAN industries.
While the project has had significant outcomes, it was pointed out that the organizational structure to promote university and industry collaboration was insufficient. In order to strengthen MJIIT’s educational and research capacity, this project will focus on enhancing the collaboration between Japanese universities and industries through Malaysia-Japan Linkage Office (MJL).
