JICA received the 2019 Institutional Award from International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA)

At the closing plenary of the IAIA[1] annual conference held in Brisbane, Australia on May 2 (IAIA19), JICA received the 2019 Institutional Award from IAIA. The Award recognizes governmental and non-governmental organizations (in principle, one institution each year) that have made significant contributions for environmental impact assessment and other activities related to environmental and social considerations (ESC). This was the second case that a Japanese organization received this award, since the Environment Agency (at that time) won the award in 1998.

JICA received the award for its collaborative reviewing system based on the ESC Guidelines together with the Advisory Committee (a committee that consists of third party experts) for ESC, which promotes neutrality, transparency, and public participation.

IAIA19, which was held from April 29 to May 2, 2019, had active discussions on environmental and social impact assessment with the participation of 885 researchers and practitioners from 77 countries. The next annual conference will be held in May 2020 in Seville, Spain.
