JICA Domestic Strategy and Partnership Department
Let’s spread grassroots international cooperation! -Material utilized in online seminar in Peru –

Introduce JICA Partnership Programme (JPP)

JICA Citizen Participation Project has been supporting the participation in international cooperation activities of a wide range of entities such as citizens, NGOs, local governments, universities, and private companies, and cooperating with them in various ways.
We produced JICA-Net multimedia-based learning material, “Making international cooperation part of Japanese culture-JICA Partnership Programme (JPP)” (YouTube, external link), to make JICA Partnership Programme (JPP) known widely, which is a major pillar of JICA’s Citizen Participation Scheme.

Used the material in the online seminar for Peruvian NGOs

Photo We held the seminar for Peruvian NGOs to introduce JICA Partnership Programme (JPP).

In the online seminar for Peruvian NGOs, held by JICA, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. (Peru time), on Thursday, March 16, 2023, we screened the Spanish version of the material.

We performed the seminar for the purpose of not only increasing people’s awareness of JPP through the introduction of NGO-JICA Japan Desk and the project but also promoting the exchange between Peruvian NGOs and JICA and creating the opportunity to make a new project by comprehending the needs and the issues local Peruvian groups have.
In total 60 participants who belong to Peruvian NGOs and related groups took part in the seminar.

The material by which people are able to know the examples of grassroots international cooperation

Photo Takigawa International Exchange Association has made an effort to develop onions adapted to conditions in Mongolia. Ms. Ganchimeg, a Mongolian staff member, plays a leading role.

To make JPP known concretely, the material shows the following good examples of 3 project types respectively in addition to the explanation of the system and introduces the local voices of counterparts:
1.“Grassroots Cooperation Support Type” for those with limited experience: the activity of “MINT SOCIETY for IRANIANS with PHYSICAL HANDICAPS” that assists persons with disabilities in Iran. 2.“Regional Vitalisation Type” in which local governments play a leading role in project proposal: The effort of improving the income of the new generation of farmers in Mongolia by Takigawa International Exchange Association. 3.“Grassroots Partner Type” targets those with abundant experience and achievements in assisting developing countries: Improving efforts to develop onions adapted to conditions in Mongolia by the said association.

As an introduction to the seminar and as a valuable material in multiple languages

Photo The material made in Japanese, English, Spanish, and French.

By screening the digest version of the material at the beginning of the one and a half-hour seminar, participants were able to get an image and an outline of JPP.
Because of it, we proceeded smoothly to explain the detail of the system, introduce an ongoing project, and share the experiences of those who were involved.
We felt that using the material as an introduction to the seminar was very useful.
Moreover, because there was no Spanish documentation explaining JPP in the way that this material was explained, using videos and illustrations that let the viewer understand easily, it was valuable.
Being made in Japanese, English, Spanish, and French, the material would lead to creating the opportunity of introducing JPP in various areas.

The material could be used widely from groups considering applying for JPP to groups interested in JICA’s Citizen Participation Scheme, from general people who are interested in international cooperation to groups with abundant experience and aiming for the next step.
We hope that the material would deepen understanding and vitalize activities of international cooperation at a grassroots level in various styles and become a help to create a society where people feel familiar with international cooperation.

Making international cooperation part of Japanese culture-JICA Partnership Program (JPP) -

JICA Partnership Programme, or JPP is a major pillar of JICA’s Citizen Participation Scheme, which encourages organisations to expand their activities in developing countries.
The video shows the main elements of actual project planning and execution within this scheme.
This material is formulated for the Japanese organisations (NGOs, universities, and local governments) to deepen their understandings of JPP (important perspectives, three different project types etc...)
At the same time, we introduce key points for the success of JPP projects referring on-going projects. We expect that this material will be utilized the progression in quality of JPP.
