【JICA Chair】Japan's Experience in Promoting Small and Medium Enterprises

This video focuses on the role played by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the transformation of Japan's industrial structure and the related policies implemented by the Government of Japan. It explains how Japan converted to a machine industry-centered export structure before and after World War II and related industrial policies which were effectively implemented. In addition, it also explains the lessons learned from the subsequent shift to knowledge-intensive policies aimed at advancing SMEs industries. By sharing Japanese experience, this video emphasizes the importance of considering SME promotion policies based on circumstances of each country.

These video lecture shall be widely disseminated to JICA chair participants, trainees, JICA staff, and other interested parties. To have them learn about the process by which Japan has solved development issues.

Today in Japan, mainly regarding critical public buildings such as disaster prevention/management facilities, hospitals, schools, etc., we are working on earthquake countermeasures based on the idea that even if a large-scale earthquake occurs, we should aim to prevent damage not only to lives but also to buildings, so that their continuous usability and social functions can be maintained. The video shows how Japan recognized such way of thinking through the experience and lesson-lerant from the past disasters and introduces the current technical countermeasures for a large-scale earthquake.

We are the creators of 2030.　JICA’s initiatives for achieving the SDGs

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations in 2015 have reached the turning point. Toward achieving the SDGs, JICA has created the JICA Global Agenda, a set of 20 strategies for global development. This video shows JICA's SDG initiatives around the world in collaboration with a wide range of domestic and international partners, form various perspective.
This material was created in 2023, and also the United Nations will host the quadrennial "SDG Summit" in this year.
This material has been created as a tool to effectively communicate JICA's SDG initiatives around the world, as interest in the SDGs is expected to attract more attention and their importance be reaffirmed in Japan and abroad.
Those who are engaged or interested in SDGs, JICA’s activities and development assistance are very welcome to watch this material.

DX for development cooperation projects in developing countries is in progress, and especially in the field of healthcare, the use of digital health for innovative approaches is essential to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC). This material introduces examples and possibilities of the use of digital health to contribute to solving issues faced by developing countries toward achieving UHC, as well as JICA's digital health strategy, utilization, and future prospects.

This includes cases in which farmer doubled their income in a short period. Food value chains evolve along with factors like technological development and transition of consumer preferences. This video looks at agricultural support that responds to such changes.
