Volunteer Dispatch Resumes after 3.5 Years!

On 25th July, after a 3.5-year suspension due to the corona pandemic, our office received a volunteer from Japan. Mr. Toshiki KASAI will be serving in Ethiopia for the next 2 years at the SOS Children’s Village in Addis Ababa. He will be assigned to the physical education department where he will be expected to engage the students in various sports activities and share his knowledge on play and movement.
Upon his arrival in Addis, Mr. Toshiki was met by Dr. Katsuki Morihara, Chief Representative, JICA Ethiopia Office, who welcomed him and wished him well on his new assignment. A courtesy visit was also arranged to meet with the Ambassador of Japan, representatives from the Ministry of Finance and his future colleagues at SOS Children’s Village. The first task after the orientation period is to undergo a 60-hour Amharic language class training to add to his initial language classes from Japan. After which, Mr. Toshiki will begin working at the SOS Children’s Village.
Japanese volunteers have been coming to Ethiopia since 1972 and almost 800 have served in various fields over the years.
