2023.08.07

From July 17th to 28th, 2023, a pilot training for technical human resources for medical devices took place in Chisinau for 45 trainees who work at public medical institutions. This comes as a first step from a series of activities planned for the establishment of an official biomedical engineering continuous training program in Moldova.

The Ministry of Health of Moldova plans to conduct this program for the relevant technical human resources for medical devices to keep abide with the latest knowledge and skills for the appropriate usage of various kinds of equipment introduced at public hospitals. JICA confirm the high demand for this because Moldovan government has purchased and received several new equipment from development partners, including JICA, especially in this critical time.

In response to the official request from the Government of Moldova, JICA has been assisting the Ministry of Health by dispatching a Japanese expert, Mr. Umemiya since July 2022. Moldovan counterparts and JICA formed a team of trainers, supported the team to develop the pilot program including the preparation of necessary materials, and helped the Ministry hold the pilot program.

The pilot program consisted of theoretical sessions on a list of topics: medical device management, medical device database in Moldova, preventive and corrective maintenance, legal framework, development of technical specifications, etc., and practical sessions with medical equipment at Chisinau Municipal Clinical Hospital “St. Trinity”.

During the closing session, JICA Ukraine Office conveyed its warm appreciation to all those who contributed to the development of this program and special thanks to the team of trainers, St. Trinity Hospital, Mr. Umemiya, and the Ministry for their efforts. The representatives of the Ministry showed their gratitude for JICA and handed over certificates to all participants who successfully completed this pilot program.

The participants expressed their appreciation to JICA for this opportunity of learning updated information on various medical equipment and emphasized the necessity of this kind of periodical training for the effective utilization of medical equipment in a sustainable manner. JICA plans to conduct second pilot training program and finalize the development of official training program.
