The JDS provides opportunities for young government officials, who are expected to play an important role in the future in the field of social and economic development, to obtain a degree (master's or doctoral degree) at a Japanese university. The JDS was established in 1999 by Japanese Grant Aid, and is currently deployed in 19 countries, mainly in Asia, with more than 5,000 JDS fellows visiting Japan by 2023.

This year, 15 students will be selected for the master's course and 1 for the doctoral course. Selected JDS fellows will study at a Japanese accepting university and study their specialized fields in English (master's course: 2 years, doctoral course: 3 years).
