JICA conducts a Student Tour in National Capital District

10 students accompanied by 2 teachers from Marianville and Jubilee secondary schools in the National Capital District (NCD) participated in a student tour hosted by JICA PNG on the 11th of October 2023.
The aim of this tour was to promote and encourage youths to practice proper waste management in their schools to create a cleaner environment for all. Activities included site visits to Baruni landfill site, Port Moresby Sewage System Upgrading (POMSSUP) Project at Joyce Bay which were previously supported through JICA. There were also a series of presentations from Conservation and Environmental Protection Authority, Water PNG, NCD Commission Waste Management Team, JICA staff and JICA PNG Alumni president on proper waste management practices. A total of 12 wheelie bins were also donated to the schools after the tour. The wheely bins will be used in each school to implement the methods learnt during the tour by students.
JICA continues to support PNG to improve its waste management practices for a cleaner, safer and healthy environment.
