Building a Bridge to a Shared Future through Trust — ODA Seminar for Local Media Held in Papua New Guinea —

On May 29, 2025, a seminar on Japan’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) was held in Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea (PNG), for members of the local media. As 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and PNG, the seminar highlighted the history of bilateral cooperation and outlined the future direction of Japan’s support.

At the opening of the seminar, H.E. MOCHIZUKI Hisanobu, Ambassador of Japan to Papua New Guinea, delivered remarks reflecting on the trust and friendship that have been built between the two nations over the past five decades. He also expressed his hope for continued partnership in the next 50 years.
Following this, Mr. MATSUOKA Hideaki, Chief Representative of the JICA Papua New Guinea Office, gave an overview of the fundamental principles of Japan’s ODA and the scope of cooperation currently underway in PNG. A lively exchange of questions and comments took place between JICA and the attending media representatives.
JICA remains committed to working with the people of PNG toward a sustainable future, with “trust” as a driving force. Through international cooperation rooted in the needs of local communities, we aim to contribute to building a better and more inclusive society.
