[29th May 2026-Port Moresby] JICA Chief Representative Mr. SHIROUZU Kennichi was pleased to meet New United Nations Resident Coordinator (UNRC) in PNG, Shalini Bahuguna, for an introductory meeting. The visit aimed to further strengthen efforts to address the country’s development challenges and to promote closer collaboration between the United Nations and JICA.

During the meeting, both exchanged views on a wide range of challenges facing PNG. Ms. Shalini expressed high appreciation for JICA’s ongoing initiatives and its longstanding collaboration with UN agencies. In response, Mr. SHIROUZU drew on JICA’s extensive track record in the country and collaboration with UN agencies. He also reaffirmed JICA’s commitment to maintaining close collaboration with UN agencies.

The courtesy visit provided a valuable opportunity for both the United Nations and JICA to further strengthen their strategic and operational partnership toward addressing development challenges in PNG. JICA will continue to enhance co-creation through regular dialogue with UN agencies and contribute to the country’s sustainable and inclusive development.
