Project Plate Unveiling Ceremony of JICA’s Grant Aid Project at the University Clinic of Karakalpakstan Medical Institute

On 1st of July 2024, the project plate unveiling ceremony of JICA’s grant aid “Project for Improvement of Medical Service at the Innovative Clinic under the Medical Institute of Karakalpakstan” (signed grant amount 794 mil JPY) was held with the attendance of Mr. Takashi Hatori, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan and Mr. Yoshibumi Bito, Chief Representative of JICA Uzbekistan Office. From the Uzbek side, Mr. Amanbay Orinbaev, Chairman of the Jokargy Kenes of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Mr. Davron Sultanov, First Deputy Minister of Health, Mr. Shohrukh Daliev, Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Dr. Oral Ataniyazova, Rector of the Medical Institute of Karakalpakstan attended the ceremony.

Under this project, Japanese high quality equipments such as a CT scanner, mobile clinic, and portable x-rays are being provided to improve access to quality healthcare for the people of Karakalpakstan. The mobile clinic will enable doctors to travel to rural areas where access to advanced healthcare remains a challenge and provide thorough examination to contribute to early detection of diseases. In addition, medical simulators have also been provided through the project for the training and strengthening of the skills of medical personnel.

JICA has been delivering various projects in the health and medical sector to ensure healthy living of the people in Uzbekistan which is crucial in promoting sustainable growth of this country. During the ceremony, Ambassador Mr. Hatori also mentioned that this project is aligned with Uzbekistan’s focus on health system improvement and the capacity building of medical professionals.

Japan and the Uzbek side agreed that the equipment procured through this project will continue to be utilized effectively to contribute to improved quality of healthcare in Uzbekistan.
