The First Environmental Education Pilot Activity was Initiated

Environmental Education Working Group aims to communicate with wide ranges of stakeholders in implementing pilot activities. The first activity, environmental interpretation tour, was organized with two main aims; improving interpretation and guiding skills of the National Park Management Office staff, providing an opportunity to enjoy nature for the youth living in big cities.

From the capital city, Tirana, 23 students and teachers of an international school attended. The chief of the National Park Management Office chief introduced the biodiversity and the value of the Park from a viewpoint. Then group visited the National Park Management office, core zone forests and a small lagoon. Fortunately, pelicans were there. As well as pelicans group enjoyed varieties of creatures. After lunch, visit was made to the Karavasta Lagoon and the beach at the recreation zone.

The chief of the National Park Management Office found it valuable to have foreign visitors and their opinion. Examples of answer pointed out current issues and solutions such as garbage collection, providing information/interpretation and so on. Such questionnaire survey was made for the first time, but pointing out similar issues from the local residents. The result will be a good reference for elaborating the Management Plan for sustainable future.

The project cooperates with local schools in conjunction with the Directory of Education. Besides, an Albanian expert who attended JICA training program "Environmental Education for Sustainable Development - Conservation of Coastal Ecosystems for Lives of Local Communities" joins us. By promoting participation of wide ranges of stakeholders, the project assists sustainable management of the National Park.
