Meeting of the Park Management Committee

On June 29, the Management Committee of Divjaka-Karavasta National Park was held.

The committee was established during the implementation of the " Project for Conservation and Sustainable use of Divjaka-Karavasta National Park with participation of local governments and stakeholders " from 2012 to 2014, and it was held 4 times under the project.

Park Management Committee was legislated by Law on the protected areas in 2017 and set for all Protected areas in Albania. In 2018, a bylaw stipulated the composition of the committee, and a meeting with the members of the newly formed committee, chaired by Fieri Prefect, was held in May in 2019. The committee meeting was held once in January 2020, however successive meetings could not be held in 2020 due to the spread of covid-19 infections.

This time, the National Park Management Office, which is the implementing agency of the project, acted as the secretariat, and "the seventh" meeting of the Divjake-Karavasta National Park Management Committee was held with 32 participants (all members specified in the bylaw), chaired by the Director of Public Administration, Fier, who was delegated by the Prefect of Fieri.

Mr. Ardian Koci, Director of the Park Office and Project Manager, presented the report of 2020-2021 on the status of the Divjake-Karavasta National Park and also we had the opportunity to give a brief of the project.

In addition, the establishment of Technical Working Groups attached to the Committee was approved, and there was a lively exchange of opinions on the issues the park has been facing, with possible countermeasures coordinating among the parties concerned.

In response to the discussions of the meeting, the park management office, which is the secretariat of the committee, will be discussing the measures to be taken with the department in charge, with the support by Fieri Prefecture.

The Park Management Committee is required by the Law on Protected areas to meet at least twice a year. The next meeting is scheduled to be held in October.
