A launch ceremony of the Junior Ranger Program was held at the Divjake Karavasta National Park (DKNP) on World Ranger Day, July 31. The Junior Rangers were recruited in 2018 in national parks across Albania with the assistance of Italian Cooperation. The program has since been scaled down due to budget shortfalls and the spread of Covid-19 infections. It has been barely continued in DKNP and Prespa National Park in northern Albania. However, as the first activity of "sustainable ecotourism" and "environmental education" in the project, it is reorganized and relaunched as the Junior Ranger Program.
The officer in charge of the DKNP visited the Department of Education of Divjake and primary and secondary schools in advance to deliver brief explanation of the program. 17 male and female students from grade 6 to grade 9 (equivalent to Japanese students in 6th grade elementary school and junior high school) were appointed as Junior Rangers. The ceremony included a instruction by the park director, a mini-workshop on drawing of animal and plant, and nature walk.
Prior to the launching ceremony, on July 28, excursion tour was organized to Prespa National Park. Eight aspiring junior rangers in DKNP exchanged veiws with junior rangers in Prespa and jointly observed the park.
we are going to plan to conduct training for junior rangers and provide them broader opportunities to experience and learn about nature through park patrols, monitoring, and taking a part of Awareness Campaign.
